North Cornwall is famous for its fresh, locally sourced and delicious food. Attracting food lovers from all over the country, it offers a great variety of dinner sports for your romantic weekend in Cornwall, many of which are situated just a short distance from our classic cottages.
There are many wonderful restaurants to choose from in and around the small town of Rock. We have handpicked some of our favourites offering an intimate experience to impress your significant other.
The Mariners – This newly refurbished watering hole, part of the Paul Ainsworth family, is a Cornish jewel on the waterfront. Offering heated outdoor seating you can enjoy the scenic views and fresh sea air of the Rock Estuary whilst enjoying the locally brewed Sharp’s beers. We recommend visiting in the evening to share a romantic sunset over the water whilst enjoying some of the locally-renowned Porthilly oysters or one of the fantastic pub classics from the main menu. A welcoming cosy yet vibrant atmosphere makes The Mariners the perfect place to impress someone and still have a good time amongst the locals of Rock.
The Dining Room – This cosy, family-run restaurant offers the perfect blend of fine dining and an uncompromising cosy atmosphere. Head chef Fred Beedles prides his kitchen on making everything by hand and serving up only the best food. All dishes are created with care and beautifully presented whilst his partner Donna Caswell provides an intimate service to fully complete a romantic evening.
St Petroc’s Bistro – Fancy a night out for three in Padstow? This Rick Stein owned restaurant offers a snug room perfect for couples who want to enjoy their evening with their dog — offering delicious 30-day dry-aged steaks from Devon as well as a few of Rick Stein’s classic Mediterranean dishes. Why not make an evening of it and take the ferry from Rock harbour to Padstow? Enjoying the sea breeze followed by a romantic walk next to the harbour lights, before warming up with a delicious meal next to a cosy fireplace.
Barnaby’s – Sister to the popular seafood restaurant Prawn on the Lawn, Barnaby’s is located in a former Victorian tea room in Padstow and offers a regularly changing menu of locally sourced and seasonal produce. This small, snug restaurant places diners within view of the kitchen, allowing an intimate journey from wood-fired oven to plate. A tapas style system of ordering a mix of small and large plates allows for the anticipation and excitement of trying a mix of exciting and bold flavours. Barnaby’s is the perfect secret escape to watch the world go by together.
Rock n Roll Plaice – Not feeling a night out? Loved by the locals, this fish and chip shop offers a great menu if you wanted to complete your weekend with a romantic night in one of our cottages for your better half. Pop in and choose from a large cod and chips to a saveloy with curry sauce, dim the lights and let the charm of our holiday cottage do the rest. Looking for a good drink? Pop into Wadebridge Wines, where they offer a wide range of local and bespoke beverages including North Cornwall’s award-winning Camel Valley Wine, a tasty variety of Tarquins Gin or even a Cornish Toffee Vodka.
